Minimally Invasive Surgery

Laparoscopy allows for operations to be performed through very small incisions (about 1cm) as compared to a large abdominal incision (about 10cm). This procedure is done in a hospital setting, is less painful, has a shorter recovery time and requires no hospital stay when compared to using a larger abdominal incision called a laparotomy.

Dr. Delgado is a minimally invasive surgeon, using the Robotics platform also known as the da Vinci. The da Vinci® Surgical System features a 3D HD vision system for a clear and magnified view inside the patient’s body. da Vinci’s EndoWrist® instruments bend and rotate far greater than the human wrist. The surgeon controls the da Vinci System, which translates his or her hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. da Vinci technology allows surgeons to perform complex and routine procedures through a few small openings, similar to traditional laparoscopy. In addition, Dr. Delgado utilizes cutting-edge Lisa Laser technology and Firefly technology only available with the robotic platform. The Lisa Laser is superior to the traditional CO2 lasers typically used for Endometriosis.

Specializing in resection and ablation of endometriosis, Dr. Delgado prefers the da Vinci platform with Lisa Laser to deliver the best care as it provides superior visualization and allows for precise resection and ablation of endometriotic lesions.

The Institute for Robotic & Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery at Reston Hospital Center offers Northern Virginia the most comprehensive da Vinci robotic program with the most experienced surgeons across multiple specialties in one location. This program also includes pioneers in performing single-site surgery, one of which is the most experienced OBGYN surgeon in the region.

The da Vinci Surgical System takes minimally invasive surgery to a new era, allowing Dr. Delgado to operate through small incisions with better visualization, precision, dexterity and control than ever before. That means less pain and scarring, fewer complications, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery–getting you back to your work and family more quickly. Reston Hospital Center da Vinci surgeons have had extensive training and are members of Reston Hospital’s Institute for Robotics and Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery. Dr. Melissa Delgado is a member of this surgical team.
