Menopause: Pre-Menopause and Peri-Menopause

Coping with the transitional phases that leads to menopause and its management thereafter may differ from woman to woman. The transitional period leading to the onset of menopause can be marked by symptoms that may affect the daily lives of many women.

In a pre-menopausal phase, the woman will most likely experience minimal, less noticeable, or no symptoms. She will still have her menstrual cycle, which can either be regular or irregular.

The peri-menopausal phase, the symptoms are noticeable and can be challenging for many women because of the associated symptoms, which can interfere with lifestyle or cause concern.

Menopause sets in when a woman’s menstrual cycle has ceased permanently for 12 months leading to the end of the natural reproductive years.

How and When do these Symptoms affect Women?

Between ages 30 and 40, most women may start experiencing symptoms like irregular periods, heavy, light, short, or long periods, sleep disturbance, decreased sex drive, vaginal dryness, urinary tract infection, mood changes, hot flashes, and depression.
